Tips for Having a Fit Pregnancy
| Tips for Having a Fit Pregnancy |
So, you’re pregnant? Congratulations! You will want to treasure each and every single day of your pregnancy so as never to forget it once your baby comes along and your brain will get crammed with new memories of your growing child. Pregnancy has many physical and mental challenges and in order to properly enjoy 9 months of what is essentially heaven on earth, you have to get moving and be happy.
Pregnancy fitness is such a funny phrase because if you think about it, you’ve never heard a pregnant woman in her life say this is the most fit she’s ever been. In fact, it is usually quite the contrary. You usually hear pregnant women say they feel sluggish, gross, “big”, and anything but energetic. So many women feel it is impossible to “enjoy” every moment of being pregnant because of all the symptoms associated with it including nausea, swollen feet, headaches, and others. Well, this doesn’t have to be you and it will be better for you and your baby’s health if you are fit. Now being fit doesn’t mean you have to be able to run 5 miles like a professional athlete, it just means you have to get your body moving enough times throughout the day and week to help your body feel good. This can include simple aerobic routines or maternal exercises that are designed specifically for the pregnant woman who wants to be fit during her pregnancy. Below I have made a list of the top 15 ways to be fit during your pregnancy. For this article, being fit includes both the physical and mental aspects because for me they are both directly related to each other. As always, you’ll want to talk to your healthcare provider before starting any exercise routine, but following any of these tips will give you a healthy start to the most perfect pregnancy you ever dreamed possible! 1. Pregnancy Yoga – This form of yoga is catered for a woman with a growing belly. It is designed to have an instructor offer prenatal fitness advice to prepare for a healthy pregnancy and delivery. You can do this kind of yoga up to three times a week but any small amount is also beneficial. 2. Walking – This simple exercise is wonderful because you can improve your blood circulation (which is healthy for you and baby) and burn a few extra calories you probably don’t need that could go to your thighs instead of your belly. 3. Stretching Exercises – Stretching is SUPER important in pregnancy because many women get cramps and with all the body changes they become increasingly inflexible (which is NOT good for giving birth). 4. Water Aerobics – this helps a lot with blood circulation and is a fun way to exercise without putting stress on any part of the body, especially the joints. 5. Massages – what a fun way to relax for anyone, but especially a pregnant woman who gets tensed in areas she never knew existed! 6. Sex – For those who need an immediate all over energy boost! 7. Gain the right amount of weight – Gaining too much weight puts pressure on your body and can make you more sluggish. Have a healthy diet. 8. Get your hair and nails done regularly – In order to be fit physically you have to be fit mentally so what better way to be beautiful than to take some YOU time 9. Do breathing exercises – This is a nice form of meditation that helps prepare you for childbirth as well. 10. Stay off your back – Sleeping or resting on your back causes low blood pressure for your baby and can make you feel more tired than you are 11. Dance to music – Get your body moving easily by listening to your favorite fast paced music and swing that belly around the house! 12. Watch your emotions – Don’t hang around negative people and DO NOT let things get to you that you can’t control. For example, you can’t control your baby’s genetics or Apgar score! 13. Read HAPPY pregnancy books – Pick a pregnancy book that doesn’t mention ALL the things that can go wrong at the end of each paragraph. 14. Write in a pregnancy journal - Keep notes of all your crazy pregnancy dreams and moments. Your baby will want to know and you will treasure them later on. 15. Go to maternal and baby stores – Stores like Babies R Us and Motherhood Maternity are nice environments to get special attention just because you’re pregnant or have a baby. The people who work in these stores are usually friendly because who doesn’t love a pregnant woman or a baby? Also, you will get to see other moms to be or professional moms who can give you an encouraging “look” that seems to speak a thousand words. Add as favourites (85) | Quote this article on your site
