What is the Optimal Body Weight for Performance

You will also need to consider progression and the way in which it relates to your performance.  What this means is that you have an optimal level of overload to be achieved but also within the best timeframe possible.  You want to make sure you do not increase overload too slow or you will probably not see any progression.  However, if you increase it too fast, the chance of muscle damage is increased.  As an example, if you workout only on the weekends but go at it hard and furious, you are not exercising as often as you should so you have an overload, which goes against the theory of progression.

As far as optimal body weight for performance, there is not a specific weight because of too many factors.  In other words, you might have one person weighing 180 pounds and be in top condition whereas another athlete with the same performance levels weights 200 pounds.  Rather than looking at the optimal body weight for performance, you need to consider other factors to ensure you are in the best shape possible, thus reaching peak performance.

For starters, if you do not yet have one, we suggest you consider hiring a personal trainer.  This person can guide you through all the necessary exercises, helping you work the right way, with the right equipment for results.  Personal trainers are common today and in fact, many trainers are licensed and exceptionally skilled.  Because of this, you can hire the best of the best but without paying a fortune.

Another consideration over optimal body weight for performance has to do with diet.  The type of food you put into your body will play a key role in how well you perform.  For instance, if you are a runner, then you need lean protein and complex carbohydrates before a race to fuel the muscles.  Each sport has different food requirements so it is important that you understand the diet that will bolster your chances of success.

Rest is also essential.  When the body is not properly rested, it simply cannot perform.  As a part of your formal or effective training, you must make sure you follow a close schedule for rest.  When you sleep, the body is spending time rebuilding muscle.  Therefore, by getting eight hours of sleep a night, you have a chance of recovering not just the body but also the mind, which means getting more for your return, quicker, and more effectively.

Then, pay close attention to your body.  Fine-tuned athletes know the value of listening to the things the body is saying.  What we mean by this is you have to know when you are feeling under the weather, tired, stressed, and even injured.  This also means paying attention to your heart rate so you know the signals of needing to slow down or rest.  In most cases, serious injury can be avoided just by being aware of the warning signs.  With these tips, you can perform beyond your expectations.  Great performers know what makes them different is not necessarily a number on the scales but the way in which the body is treated overall.

Remember, you can take charge of your life.  Even if you have battled weight since you were a baby, you can take steps to do something about it.  Do not worry about being a size two as the Hollywood stars are, but losing enough weight to relieve the heart of extra strain.  The goal is not celebrity appearance, but better health so you can go on to enjoy a life of health and happiness.  Make sure you get on the right diet and add a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise to your daily regimen.  With this, you will reach your optimal goal and maintain it.
